FAQs - Please read before booking

1) What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is the name of the process using relaxation techniques in order to achieve trance state. Trance state is an altered state of consciousness in which suggestions can be passed directly to the subconscious mind and carried out without conflict or question. Hypnosis can be induced so long as permission has been granted/ allowed by the volunteer. No-one can be hypnotised against their will and volunteers can not be made to do anything against their own morals or values.

2) Is Hypnosis Safe?

Hypnosis in itself is perfectly harmless and is just an altered state of consciousness. How can words be harmful?

However, it's what hypnotists ask their "subjects" to do whilst in trance that determines the safety of the on stage volunteers. So long as the suggestions do not involve performing daring feits, jumping from heights and danger, hypnosis shows are perfectly safe and good fun. All of The Master Hypnotist Shows follow strict health and safety guidelines and will NEVER compromise volunteers safety or place them in any harmful or risky situations. The Master hypnotist show is good, clean light hearted fun and ALL VOLUNTEERS for our shows must complete a health questionnaire in order to verify their suitability for the show, and that they meet our criteria in order to take part.

3) What is our volunteer exclusion criteria?

All volunteers must first and foremost be 18 years of age and over BY LAW.  Volunteers must be in good physical and mental health and must not have any history of the following -

Heart Conditions, Epilepsy, Mental Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Asthma, Drug Misuse, Alcohol Misuse, Currently taking Prescribed Medications or currently / recently Pregnant, back/ neck/ joint problems.

If volunteers have admitted to any of the above conditions, they will be asked NOT TAKE PART IN THE SHOW. We treat the health and safety of our volunteers at the utmost importance.

4) What assurances do we have of Professionalism?

The Master Hypnotist has been performing as a Stage Hypnotist for 10 years and has a clean track record verifiable through our entertainment agent Tom Solley at Emkay Lothian Entertainments (Tel - 01506 855555) and feedback forms from venues performed in. The Master is a member of Equity and follows strict guidelines set by the government in the form of the 1952 Hypnotism Act and the 1996 Government review. (Click here for full details)  Unlike many hypnotists, The Master Hypnotist carefully selects volunteers by means of a health questionnaire in order to insure their suitabilty to take part in the show. Volunteers will never be asked to perform acts which may be vulgar or distasteful in any way or cause offense. The Master Hypnotist always carries out a risk assesment at each venue in order to check the safety of the sketches in relation to audience vicinity, floor surface, stage (if any) height and safety line markings, obstructions and exits.

5) Is Hypnosis covered under a venues normal entertainments licence?

HYPNOSIS SHOWS DO NOT REQUIRE A LICENCE if bookings are by Invite only, for example, birthday parties, private members clubs, holiday parks, private functions and special occassions. However, if the performance is a public show, an application to the local council MAY have to be made. This condition varies depending on the individual local council regulations. For example West Dunbartonshire Council permits Public Hypnosis Shows without prior authorisation so long as they do not take place inside of a Council building including theatres. Glasgow City Council permit Stage Hypnosis Shows in Theatres ONLY and do not permit shows to the general public (in public houses etc) without prior authorisation.

PRIVATE SHOWS IN ALL REGIONS DO NOT REQUIRE PERMISSION OR APPLICATION OF A LICENCE.

PLEASE NOTE - IT IS THE RESPONSIBILTY OF THE VENUE TO ENSURE THEY VERIFY THEIR LOCAL COUNCIL'S POSITION ON STAGE HYPNOSIS BEFORE MAKING A BOOKING/ ADVERTISING A PUBLIC SHOW. AN APPLICATION MAY HAVE TO BE MADE TO THE COUNCIL LICENCING BOARD BEFORE A PUBLIC SHOW CAN GO AHEAD.

6) What Guarantees do I have when booking a Hypnotist Show?

When The Master Hypnotist Show is booked, you are paying for an appearance and NOT for a show. We can not be held responsible for a lack of volunteers or suitabilty of volunteers for our show. In other words, if we have NO volunteers, you will still be liable for the FULL booking costs. Although this very rarely happens, the risk is there. This scenario is outwith our control, so before making a booking, please ensure some of your clients/ customers etc are willing to take part! However, to minimise this risk, we also recommend booking our full show which could include Cabaret and/or Freddie Mercury/ Roy Orbison Tribute and/ or Disco.
